In France, sparkling wines made outside the Champagne appellation are labeled “Cremant.”
Does that mean Cremants are inferior to the bottlings of Champagne? Not by a long shot. In fact, it makes perfect sense that sparkling wines from Burgundy would be similar in quality to those from Champagne because the appellations share similar climates and common dominant varietals: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
But the French can be stubborn people. Many of the producers in Champagne would never give the sparkling wines of Burgundy a second glance. Similarly, many of the best Burgundy producers never even thought about crafting a sparkling wine.
Perle de Ma Mere’s “La Perle” Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé is a sparkling “pearl” crafted from grapes grown in the celebrated vineyards of Burgundy. Salmon pink in hue, it is fully sparkling, rich and creamy in the mouth, and has a long, satisfying and refreshing finish.
